Economic Expansion Expected to Continue. The first quarter of 2011 brought us significant new concerns about the global economy. So far, the year has delivered a new war in Libya, continuing and expanding unrest in the Middle East, and a tragic earthquake in Japan. These events have all worked together to keep investors on edge causing significantly higher levels of market volatility (see Chart 1: S&P 500 Volatility below). Predicting the exact outcome of all these events is, of course, impossible. However, our expectation is that none of these risks will derail the global economic recovery.
